The 40ft WINDWARD has been designed for offshore cruising and this craft has got sufficient buoyancy to carry extremely large fuel loads which makes the possibility of a cruising range of up to 2,000 nautical miles. Twin 100 h.p. Fordsons on 2 to 1 reduction would give a cruising speed of 8 knots at 3 g.p.h. At lower speeds the fuel consumption would be further reduced and the range increased. Twin 100 h.p. diesels would give a top speed of 11 knots with a fuel consumption of 5 g.p.h. Construction is ³/₁₆" steel plate over transverse frames and fore and aft stringers. The hull is ideally suited for amateur construction and is extremely robust with a high forward freeboard so that rough water can easily be handled. The craft features walk round side decks and high bulkwarks for safety with the engine room under the floor of the main cabin for ease of accessibility around the engines. Steel enables large built in tanks to be easily incorporated in the hull construction and 1,000 gallons of fuel could easily be carried in a craft of this size. The layout features a 4 berth forward cabin with owner's cabin immediately after this to starboard and shower and toilet to port. Immediately behind this is a large roomy wheelhouse and behind that the galley, dinette and saloon.
